Lin International/DRC Consultants Inc., was special design consultant for the narrow-deck bridge girder for this dual, direct fixation transit system. He also contributed to the development of the tower configuration and aerodynamics. This is the first precast cable-stayed bridge to use a solid deck slab without transverse floor beams.;T.Y. Lin/DRC did all construction engineering and design of the special segment lifters. The erection analysis included temporary stabilizing cables and anchors in the analytical modeling of the structure during construction.

Tsable River Upstream Bridge No. 3070

Vancouver Island, British Columbia

The project entails construction of a new bridge to carry the four traffic lanes of the Inland Island Highway over the ravine formed by the Tsable River. The bridge itself is the largest in the area. It measures 400 m long and 65 m deep. The substructure is founded on 900 mm diameter by 30 m concrete piles and consists of two balanced cantilever segmental post tensioned construction method. The cross section of the bridge deck consists mainly of a single cell box. This project also includes grading work for bridge approaches on the south bank to a length of about 80 m; and on the north bank to a length of about 150 m.

The work performed to date has earned a number of awards and has included the following: ;world's first replacement of a concrete deck with a steel orthotropic deck during short night time closures. ;development of analysis-and-survey technique for evaluation of suspension bridges ;derivation of modern traffic design loading for long span structures for the first time ;development of criteria for aerodynamic stability ;derivation of wind buffeting forces ;the largest bridge model to be wind tunnel tested in turbulent flow (from 1976-1991) ;the rotation of two foundations without interruption of traffic ;improved ship impact resistance ;assessment of seismic capacity ;successful correlation of calculated and measured ambient vibrations ;measured values of structural damping ;discovery of long term cable stretch ;installation of ornamental lighting ;plans for the complete replacement of the suspended structure during short closures
