H-3 Windward ViaductHonolulu, Hawaii This project is a portion of the 17 mile long, $1 Billion (USD) H-3 Interstate Route which connects the Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station with Pearl Harbour, located in the District of Koolaupoko on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. The project consisted of the construction of two parallel concrete highway viaducts, each one 6,600 feet in length, each comprised of 24 spans varying in length from 240' to 300'. Each viaduct was supported on 23 piers, varying in height from 10' to 160'. The tender design was to be cast-in-place piers, supported by driven, prestressed concrete piles. WALTER CONSTRUCTCION's alternate precast segmental bridge design consisted of a precast segmental superstructure supported by cast-in-place piers and included a foundation redesign from the specified driven, prestressed concrete piles to 5'-0" diameter cast-in-place piles. |
