This suspension bridge, which opened in 1998, is the longest of its kind in Eastern Japan. Leading-edge construction methods were used taking into account the harsh climate of this Northern land, as it was Japanfs first suspension bridge to be constructed in a cold, snowy area. At night the bridge is illuminated using electricity produced by a near by wind turbine.
