This, the largest suspension bridge in eastern Japan, opened to traffic in June 1998. The bay bridge over the port of Muroran is 1,380 meters in length, the 28th longest in the world. The bridge is lit up at night, and the Michinoeki Mitara Muroran roadside rest area commands the best view. This roadside rest area also has a Hakucho Ohashi library and an observation deck.
