The Lions Gate Bridge spans the entrance to Vancouver harbour, Canada's gateway to the Pacific Rim. It connects to the North Shore across the delta of the Capilano River and to Vancouver through the 400 hectare
(988.42 acres) Stanley Park peninsula on the south. These areas border one of the largest natural harbours in the world with an area of
123 square km (47.5 square mi.) and 156.8 km (97.43 mi.) of total shoreline. Burrard Inlet, where the Lions Gate Bridge crosses it at the First Narrows, is approximately 0.5 km (0.3 mi.) wide.
